Clay Aiken introduced me to a Christmas song -- Mary Did You Know.
This was a song I wasn't familiar with, and when I first heard about Clay singing it, I looked it up and listened to another singer's version. I honestly wasn't impressed.
THEN I heard Clay's rendition and quickly changed my mind.
The classic Clay passion and love shines when he sings MDYK, making it one of the most beautiful of the carols.

The following story was in an e-mail, it illustrates The Spirit of Christmas.

'Friends are God's way of taking care of us.'
This was written by a Metro Denver Hospice Physician:

I was driving home from a meeting this evening about 5, stuck in traffic on Colorado Blvd., and the car started to choke and splutter and die - I barely managed to coast into a gas station, glad only that I would not be blocking traffic and would have a somewhat warm spot to wait for the tow truck. It wouldn't even turn over. Before I could make the call, I saw a woman walking out of the quickie mart building, and it looked like she slipped on some ice and fell into a gas pump, so I got out to see if she was okay.

When I got there, it looked more like she had been overcome by sobs than that she had fallen; she was a young woman who looked really haggard with dark circles under her eyes. She dropped something as I helped her up, and I picked it up to give it to her. It was a nickel.

At that moment, everything came into focus for me: the crying woman, the ancient Suburban crammed full of stuff with 3 kids in the back (1 in a car seat), and the gas pump reading $4.95.

I asked her if she was okay and if she needed help, and she just kept saying 'I don't want my kids to see me crying,' so we stood on the other side of the pump from her car. She said she was driving to California and that things were very hard for her right now. So I asked, 'And you were praying?' That made her back away from me a little, but I assured her I was not a crazy person and said, 'He heard you, and He sent me.'

I took out my card and swiped it through the card reader on the pump so she could fill up her car completely, and while it was fuelling, walked to the next door McDonald's and bought 2 big bags of food, some gift certificates for more, and a big cup of coffee. She gave the food to the kids in the car, who attacked it like wolves, and we stood by the pump eating fries and talking a little.

She told me her name, and that she lived in Kansas City Her boyfriend left 2 months ago and she had not been able to make ends meet. She knew she wouldn't have money to pay rent Jan. 1, and finally in desperation had finally called her parents, with whom she had not spoken in about 5 years. They lived in California and said she could come live with them and try to get on her feet there.

So she packed up everything she owned in the car. She told the kids they were going to California for Christmas, but not that they were going to live there. I gave her my gloves, a little hug and said a quick prayer with her for safety on the road. As I was
walking over to my car, she said, 'So, are you like an angel or something?'

This definitely made me cry. I said, 'Sweetie, at this time of year angels are really busy, so sometimes God uses regular people.'

It was so incredible to be a part of someone else's miracle. And of course, you guessed it, when I got in my car it started right away and got me home with no problem. I'll put it in the shop tomorrow to check, but I suspect the mechanic won't find anything wrong.

Sometimes the angels fly close enough to you that you can hear the flutter of their wings...

When Clay Aiken sang Beautiful Star of Bethlehem at the '05 Christmas tour in Raleigh, NC, he touched the hearts of everyone hearing it.
After hearing Clay's version of BSOB, it was the sweetest song I ever heard. It quickly became a favourite in my library of Christmas songs.

Thanks to Clay's talented videographer fans, those of us unable to be at the concert in person have been enjoying this special performance.

A Happy Thanksgiving from Canada

Why the Poppy

The association between the poppy and war dates back to the Napoleonic wars when a writer saw a field of poppies growing over the graves of fallen soldiers.
During the Battle of Ypres in 1915, Canadian Lt.-Col. John McCrae was inspired to write the poem In Flanders Fields on sighting the poppies growing beside a grave of a close friend who had died in battle.

The poem was a great inspiration in adopting the poppy as the Flower of Remembrance in Canada, France, the U.S, Britain and Commonwealth countries.

The first poppies were distributed in Canada in 1921. Today the volunteer donations from the distribution of millions of poppies is an important source of revenue for the Royal Canadian Legion that goes toward helping ex-servicemen and women buy food, and obtain shelter and medical attention.

In July, Peter Holley was asked to sing the Canadian National Anthem at an event in Niagara Falls honouring the Canadian Forces. At the time, he wished he had a song of tribute to offer. He didn't. So he wrote one.

The song is called Thank A Soldier and is his way of expressing his gratitude to those who serve.

What has this blog title got to do with Clay Aiken?
If you haven't read his book
Learning to Sing Hearing the Music in Your Life it is highly recommended for all ages.

Not long ago a casual acquaintance asked me if I ever heard of "cyber bullies". This lady is not using a computer, and asked me as I do occasional things for her on mine. She told me her granddaughter in university was upset by being bullied on-line, and the lady was confused by this. She thought bullies were only physical beings in elementary school or maybe gangs. I compiled the following information and printed it out for her. She admitted to living a very sheltered life and was horrified that things like this were done.
What could I say, other than I see it every day on the internet no matter how much I try not to and have learned to quickly pass it by.

What is bullying?

Bullying is persistent unwelcome behaviour, mostly using unwarranted or invalid criticism, nit-picking, fault-finding, also exclusion, isolation, being singled out and treated differently, being shouted at, humiliated, excessive monitoring, having verbal and written warnings imposed, and much more.

History is full of stories about the bullies of their times. Why? How do children learn this despicable act? They learn it from their parents and peers.
Unfortunately this bad behavior has spread with the advent of the internet. People both young and old seem to get a kick out of being rude and disrespectful. It's sad.

Adult cyber bullies are referred to as cyber stalkers

The Internet provides the perfect forum for cyber bullies, individuals whose aim is to gain gratification from the distress caused by provoking and tormenting others.

The anonymity, ease of provocation, and almost infinite source of targets means the Internet is full of predators from pedophiles targeting children to serial bullies targeting ... anybody.

Cyber bullies get a perverse sense of satisfaction (called gratification) doing this.
Serial bullies harbour a lot of internal aggression which they direct at others.

This may include projection, false criticism and patronising sarcasm whilst contributing nothing of any value. In every case it's a fabrication or a distortion - usually the former.
The purpose of this tactic is to wind people up. Don't be fooled into believing it has any validity - it doesn't.

People who bully are adept at creating conflict between those who would otherwise pool negative information about them.

The method of creating conflict is provocation which bullies delight in because they know they can always coerce at least one person to respond in a manner which can then be distorted and used to further flame and inflame people. And so it goes on.

The bully then sits back and gains gratification from seeing others engage in destructive behaviour towards each other. This is known as trolling.
Most serial bullies are also serial attention-seekers. More than anything else they want attention. It doesn't matter what type of attention they get, positive or negative, as long as they can provoke someone into paying them attention.

It's like a 2-year-old child throwing a tantrum to get attention from a parent. The best way to treat bullies is to refuse to respond and to refuse to engage them - which they really hate.

In other words, do not reply to their postings, and on forums carry on posting without reference to their postings as if they didn't exist. In other words, treat nobodies as nobodies.

The anger of a serial bully is especially apparent when they come across someone who can see through them to espy the weak, inadequate, immature, dysfunctional aggressive individual behind the mask.

The objectives of bullies are Power, Control, Domination, Subjugation. They get a kick out of seeing you react.

It doesn't matter how you react, the fact they've successful provoked a reaction is, to the bully, a sign that their attempt at control have been successful.

After that, it's a question of wearing you down. The more your try to explain, negotiate, conciliate, etc the more gratification they obtain from your increasingly desperate attempts to communicate with them.

Understand that it is not possible to communicate in a mature adult manner with a disordered individual.

Dealing with Cyber bullies/stalkers

- Don't respond and don't engage. This is not as easy to do as it sounds. It's a natural response to want to defend yourself, and to put the person right.

- Never argue with a serial bully; it's not a mature adult discussion, but like dealing with a child or immature teenager; whilst the serial bully may be an adult on the outside, on the inside they are like a child who's never grown up - and probably never will.

- The provoker watches, waits and stirs the pot with the occasional additional provocation.
In this context, gratification is a perverse form of satisfaction akin to, but distinct from, pleasure.

- When people use bullying behaviours they project their own weaknesses, failings and shortcomings on to others.
Refusing to respond and engage will result in the cyberbully losing interest and moving on.

Many excited Clay Aiken fans attended the Champions Gala in Raleigh, NC this weekend. They invaded from Canada, New Zealand and all across the U.S. Many more of us around the world were glued to our computers watching for updates and tidbits from the Gala, thanks to the dear folks attending and sharing via texting, etc. Gotta love the internet highway!

October is Breast Cancer Month

We've all been touched by this disease in one way or another.

The humorous and pertinent writings of Erma Bombeck are often used this month--this is one of my favourites.

If I had my life to live over, I would have talked less and listened more.

I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained and the sofa faded.

I would have eaten the popcorn in the 'good' living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.

I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.

I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.

I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage.

I would have sat on the lawn with my children and not worried about grass stains.

I would have cried and laughed less while watching television - and more while watching life.
I would have shared more of the responsibility carried by my husband.

I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren't there for the day.

I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn't show soil or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.

Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.

When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, "Later. Now go get washed up for dinner."

There would have been more "I love you's".. More "I'm sorrys" ...

But mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute... look at it and really see it ... live it...and never give it back.

When nothing seems to help, I look at a stonecutter hammering away at his rock, perhaps 100 times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet, at the 101st blow it will split in two, and I know that it was not that last blow that did it, but all that had gone before.

This year the arrival of fall means it's that much closer to 2010!

A big event will be the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, B.C.

That is exciting, but not what I'm looking forward to the most.

So what am I looking forward to the new year? Decca Records said to expect new music from Clay Aiken in the first half of 2010! A new Clay CD, TV shows, and there will have to be a tour, don't you think?! Yahoo!

To keep Clay fans busy until then, the National Inclusion Project Gala is less than a month away, with Thanksgiving, Halloween, and Christmas not far behind. This short lull is a good time to catch up on routine jobs until the festivities and excitement have returned.

Fall and spring are traditional times to clean your house. Do some multi-tasking by reflecting back over the months gone by while doing the cleaning. Gather the positive events and the negative. Keep the positives to remember, and toss the negatives out. Take the lessons learned from both sides, then relax and enjoy your refreshed home and mind.

Time to turn on the stereo for my motivational music to accompany the cleaning up - Clay Aiken music is playing, of course! Clay’s songs are the most powerful companion at any time.

Everything I Needed to Know I Learned from Clay Aiken

The other day a friend I don't see often came over, and while we were catching up, she asked me about Clay with the usual "what's he up to these days?" My friend spends very little time on the computer, it's not her thing, she doesn't even like using e-mail--but she does enjoy Clay's singing and I always make sure she gets his CD's and a concert DVD or two.

After she left I got to thinking about all the things Clay has accomplished since 2003, it's been a lot! My computer files and cupboard full of CD's and DVD's are proof of that! Can you list his ventures? Being rather lazy and a Google addict, I searched for Clay's Biography and came up with a long list. I chose one, enjoyed reading it, and will share the first part of it here. The link to the full bio is at the end of this portion.

Clay Aiken is an American pop singer who began his rise to fame on the second season of the television program American Idol in 2003. RCA Records offered him a recording contract, and his multi-platinum debut album Measure of a Man was released in October 2003. He released four more albums on the RCA label: Merry Christmas with Love, A Thousand Different Ways, and the Christmas EP, All is Well. His fourth studio album On My Way Here was released on May 6, 2008.

In the years following his American Idol appearance, Aiken has launched eight tours, authored a New York Times best-selling book Learning to Sing: Hearing the Music in Your Life with Allison Glock, and was the executive producer for a 2004 televised Christmas special, A Clay Aiken Christmas. He has been a frequent talk show guest, particularly on The Tonight Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live. He appeared as a guest star on Scrubs and participated in comedy skits on Kimmel, Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock.

Aiken created the National Inclusion Project (formerly the Bubel/Aiken Foundation) in 2003, accepted a UNICEF ambassadorship in 2004, and in 2006 was appointed for a two-year term to the Presidential Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities.

Aiken made his Broadway debut playing the role of Sir Robin in Monty Python's Spamalot in January 2008. His run ended in May but he rejoined the cast as Sir Robin in September and remained through January 4, 2009.

It's no secret--I'm a fan of Clay Aiken and his voice. I'm also a fan of the 20th century classic songs. Put these two together and I'm in heaven! The smooth rhythm and charm of the "oldies" music and the well written lyrics have been sung by most every new singer that comes along. Some do a good job, some totally wreck the song, but regardless no one replaced the originals in my book. That is until Clay Aiken came into my life! When he sings the classic standards he enhances them with his fabulous voice, and makes every one uniquely his own.
While I still enjoy the original artists, Clay's versions have surpassed them in my music library.

Whether Clay sings classics or new material, he proves he was born to sing.

The National Inclusion Project, formerly The Bubel/Aiken Foundation, recently launched its new name and website at inclusionproject.org. The National Inclusion Project grew out of the relationship between Clay Aiken and Diane Bubel and Diane’s then 13-year-old son, Mike who had been diagnosed with autism. The bond between them grew strong as they shared a vision of a world where children like Mike could be fully immersed in society. They had both witnessed children with disabilities repeatedly turned away from activities opened to typical children.

“We are excited to launch the National Inclusion Project. From our inception, we have impacted the lives of children and families across the nation. Our new name will better suit our position as a national leader on inclusion as we continue to grow,” said Clay Aiken.

The Project is poised to continue to make an impact with thousands of children nationwide as well as raise the national consciousness about the need for and benefits of inclusion. Clay Aiken Solitaire Delight

The first time I ran my new montage of Clay Aiken's Solitaire on YouTube it buffered like crazy--until I switched to HQ view, then it ran smooth as silk. Usually if a video is buffering a page refresh fixes it. The large version of it was accidentally uploaded, rather than the smaller one, no wonder it took so long uploading. Guess I can't see to straight so late at night. LOL.
I know Clay's Solitaire has been used hundreds of times for montages--but not by me, until now.

"As geese flap their wings, they create an uplift for the bird following. By flying together in a V formation the flocks flying range is 71% greater than if any of the birds flew alone.

When we share a common discipline and a sense of community we can get where we are going more quickly and easily because we are travelling on the energy of one another.

Whenever a goose falls out of formation it suddenly finds the drag and resistance of trying to fly alone and quickly gets back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the birds in front.

When we have as much sense as geese, we will stay in formation with those who are headed where we want to go, we will be willing to accept their help as well as give ours to others.

The geese in formation honk to encourage those up front to keep their speed. When the lead goose gets tired, it rotates back into formation and another goose flies at the point position.

When we take turns doing the hard tasks, when we encourage others, we become stronger through shared leadership.

When a goose gets sick or wounded, two geese drop out of formation and follow it down to help and protect it. They stay with it until it is able to fly again or dies. They then launch out on their own to find another formation or to catch up with the flock. When we have learned the value of teamwork, we too will stand by each other in challenging them. Let us fly in formation and remember to drop back to help those who need it."

"Happy Birthday." Birthday cards make us smile. It gives us a nice feeling to know that someone has taken the time to recognize our birthday.

Have you ever wondered how the tradition of giving birthday cards got started? Actually, the history of birthday cards is difficult to unravel. We might find a clue, though, if we look at the beginning of birthday celebrations. It is reasonable to assume that once calendars came into use, people began to recognize birthdays, at least birthdays of royalty. However, birthday greetings were most likely exchanged in person, or in the case of royalty, gifts may have been left outside the palace gates.

In the middle ages, the "birthday party" came into being. Because
it was widely believed that evil spirits were attracted to people on their birthday, friends and family would gather at the person's house to surround them with good thoughts and good things (gifts). Eventually, birthdays progressed to being a happier occasion, and in England, people began to bring cakes in which they had hidden small trinkets, rings, etc. It is likely that handwritten birthday greetings also started at this time.

To determine the history of the actual birthday "card," it is important to look at the history of greeting cards overall. In ancient China, handwritten Chinese New Year wishes were exchanged, and in ancient Egypt, greetings were exchanged on bits of papyrus. However, the oldest known greeting "card," which was hand-made, was a Valentine's Day card dating from the 1400's in England. This Valentine is now in the British Museum. Greeting cards found more popularity in the 1800's because, with the advent of the postage stamp, cards could be sent fairly inexpensively.
In fact, they became so popular that some were assembled in factories. These featured black and write pictures painted by the factory workers.

Esther Howland, considered the mother of greeting cards, sold hand-made Valentines in the 1840's. Christmas cards made their appearance in 1843. In 1856, the first American greeting card company came into existence. It was started by Louis Prang, a German immigrant. He produced Christmas cards. The best known greeting card company is probably Hallmark, started by Joyce C. Hall whose first office was a room at the YMCA. By 1915, Hall Brothers was manufacturing greeting cards (including birthday cards) in its own plant. In the 1930's, the use of color lithography led to a significant increase in the popularity of greeting cards.

In summary, the tradition of birthday greetings is probably as old as the advent of the calendar, but the actual birthday card likely had its origin in the early 1900's. Regardless, though, of how the birthday card business started, it is now "big business," as people everywhere like to be recognized on their birthdays.

When I was little, I looked forward to my birthday cake. My favourite was angel food, and it would have pennies, nickels and one dime wrapped in wax paper throughout the cake. Somehow I always got the piece with the dime in it!
How those coins got in the cake was a mystery for many years.

The World Won’t Make You Happy

Happiness does not come wrapped in brightly colored packages as a “gift” given to us by others. Happiness comes when we uncover the gifts that lie within us and begin to use them to please God and bless others.

Happiness flows from within. It is found in the moments of life we label as “quality’ rather than quantity. George Bernard Shaw once said, “This is the true joy in life: Being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one…Being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish, little clod of ailments and grievances, complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy.”

The only person who can truly make you happy is yourself. You simply have to decide to be.

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room at each side. With a 5-lb potato sack in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and hold them there as long as you can. Try to reach a full minute, and then relax. Each day you'll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer.

After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb potato sacks. Then try 50-lb potato sacks and then eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100-lb potato sack in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute. (I'm at this level.)

After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each of the sacks.

Clay Aiken: Clay Balls-something to ponder.

The following story really isn't about Clay Aiken,

Something to read and ponder.

Clay Balls

A man was exploring caves by the seashore. In one of the caves he found a canvas bag with a bunch of hardened clay balls. It was like someone had rolled clay balls and left them out in the sun to bake. They didn't look like much, but they intrigued the man, so he took the bag out of the cave with him. As he strolled along the beach, he would throw the clay balls one at a time out into the ocean as far as he could.

He thought little about it, until he dropped one of the clay balls and it cracked open on a rock. Inside was a beautiful, precious stone!

Excited, the man started breaking open the remaining clay balls. Each contained a similar treasure. He found thousands of dollars worth of jewels in the 20 or so clay balls he had left.

Then it struck him. He had been on the beach a long time.. He had thrown maybe 50 or 60 of the clay balls with their hidden treasure into the ocean waves. Instead of thousands of dollars in treasure, he could have taken home tens of thousands, but he had just thrown it away!

It's like that with people. We look at someone, maybe even ourselves, and we see the external clay vessel. It doesn't look like much from the outside. It isn't always beautiful or sparkling, so we discount it.

We see that person as less important than someone more beautiful or stylish or well known or wealthy. But we have not taken the time to find the treasure hidden inside that person.

Hope we do not come to the end of life and find out that we have thrown away a fortune in friendships because the gems were hidden in bits of clay.

I am so blessed by the gems of friendship I have. Thank you for looking beyond My clay vessel.

Appreciate every single thing you have, especially your friends, family and all people you love!

Life is too short and friends are too few.

Clay Aiken Broadway Star

Who was lucky enough to see Clay Aiken shine on the Spamalot stage?
Clay starred in the role of Sir Robin. He also took the smaller roles of a monk and of guards.

Not being among those attending, I was glued to the Clay message boards every show waiting for reports from the Clay fans attending. They were so good to read, then the after show reports of Clay going to greet the throngs of fans to sign autographs..and have his picture taken. What a treat for all of us unable to be there.

I made this montage from the TV and news internet news clips.

A Few Audience Comments:

"...his British accent was spot on"
"...his dancing was fluid and professional"
"...his character acting and expressions were hilarious"
"...he did not appear to be nervous at all"
"The other actors seemed to really appreciate him"
"In the curtain call, Clay was second to the last to be introduced. He was the superstar of the show, his castmates acknowledged that. Standing ovations were the norm for him. His face was lit up as he absorbed the love from the audience and the respect from his peers."
"He did the Russian dance......PERFECTLY! He was spot ON!!! "
"...his comedic timing with this dialog is perfect! "
"He blended in perfectly as part of the ensemble cast"
"By the end of the show you almost forgot it was CLAY

Comments like this continued to pour in throughout both of Clay's Spamalot runs.

The media heaped well deserved praise on Clay's Broadway appearances.

Aiken, who played a Jan. 18-May 4 '08 stint in the Tony-winning musical at the Shubert Theatre, will return to the New York cast Sept. 19. He will reprise his role of Sir Robin through Jan. 4, 2009.

In a statement Aiken joked, "Since leaving Spamalot in May, jokes have just not been funny. Food has lost its taste. The grass is no longer green - the sky no longer blue. And, babies won't stop crying!! I'm so excited about coming back to the funniest show in the world!"

While he may be playing a "Sir" on Broadway in Spamalot, it is safe to say that he was King Clay Aiken at last night's opening. Of course, Spamalot has an excellent new king in Michael Siberry, and an awesome Lady in that lake with Merle Dandridge too. The new additions to the cast of Spamalot all seemed to walk on air, and this up close look at the celebratory curtain call can't help but put a smile on your face. American Idol star Clay Aiken is a natural on Broadway.
This is the excitement that happens on those rare occasions on Broadway. At the moment, forget Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe in Equus, and Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise and their entourage of Scientology protesters at All My Sons, or even forget Entourage's Jeremy Piven in Speed-The-Plow, or Ace Young in Grease. The big story on Broadway today is Clay! He is back on Broadway, and the fun has begun.

Clay's first run in "Spamalot" had a noticeable effect on box office. Weekly sales for the tuner surged the week Aiken joined the cast and took a steep tumble the frame after he departed. The sales shot up again when he returned in September.

I have no doubt that whatever Clay does next he will shine like the true star that he is.

A magic moment is formed in our memories from many sources, such as family events, friends, a trip, the wonders of Mother Nature and so on. A person makes them for us when they say or do something to capture our attention. It may make you laugh, cry, applaud and has your total focus. Magic moments are captured in photographs, videos, books, song and of course, in our minds to keep forever.

Clay Aiken: You Ought to Be in Pictures

Something I noticed on my first few sightings of Clay Aiken, other than THAT VOICE, was his photogenic features. No matter what direction he was turned, the camera showed a real cute guy. First I was quite taken with his nose, then it wasn’t long before those green eyes and THAT LOOK! After 6 plus years of seeing hundreds, make that thousands of photographs and videos, I’ve watched the cute guy morph into a totally handsome man.

So, yes, Clay fits the saying of “you ought to be in pictures” perfectly. I am happy he is in a lot of pictures and so is my computer dealer--I've upgraded three times since 2003!

Golden Years Love

Bernice and Rich of California are 95 and were recently married. They exchanged wedding vows in the same church where they met.

Both were widowed but had enjoyed long marriages. Each had been married over 60 years and raised five children.

When they met, Rich was immediately smitten, but it took Bernice a few months to realize she’d fallen in love again.

Before agreeing to marry Rich, she asked her kids for advice, telling them she had already “had it all and why should she do it again?”

Her son replied, “Well, what’s wrong with having more?”

June is Bustin' Out All Over--does anyone remember this song from Carousel?
June always makes me think of this movie, that I have watched many times. The Broadway version started in 1945 and ran for 890 performances. At least I have a good excuse not to see that one--it was before my time!

June is also famous for being the month for roses--I love roses!

The rose is the June birthflower. Rose is known as the flower of passion as the ancient Greeks believed that Aphrodite the goddess of love gave a rose to Eros the god of love. Roses have many flower meanings according to their color and number of roses in a bouquet. All roses symbolize love and appreciation.

Color Meanings:

Red: love
Pink: grace, lesser feelings of love
Dark Pink: gratitude
Light Pink: admiration, sympathy
White: innocence, purity, secrecy, friendship, reverence and humility.
Yellow: Yellow roses generally mean dying love or platonic love.
Yellow with red tips: Friendship, falling in love
Orange: passion
Burgundy: beauty
Blue: mystery
Green: calm
Purple: protection (paternal/maternal love)

Fun and interesting fact: The rose is the national flower of both England and the United States, and the state flower of several U.S. states including Iowa, North Dakota, Georgia, New York and Texas. Portland, Oregon holds an annual rose festival to celebrate the rose, and in Southern California there is an annual Rose Parade consisting of floats designed with hundreds of thousands of roses for decorations.

One of the many things I love about Clay Aiken is his sense of humour. I can honestly say I have laughed more since finding him than I did in the twenty years prior. Not only does his quick wit tickle my funny bone, but things that wouldn't have been funny before, are now.
The following news item is a good example.

Recently there was a headline in my local newspaper "Blog reaching half million followers" by the Associated Press from New York.
I can't find a link to the actual article, so here's my version of it.

Nah, I'm not talking about Clay Aiken, he doesn't twitter. But, I found this popular Twitter member - he's quite the cool cat . The proof of his celebrity has to be that even he gets some stupid and rude comments made about him.

So, who is this celebrity with more than a half a million followers? He's non other than Sockington, a cat!

Clay Aiken Idol Found - Bridge Over Troubled Water

May 20, 2003--the finale of American Idol 2, with Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard. This will always be the best episode ever for me. When Clay sang "This is The Night" it was woo-hoo's and applause in my home.

THEN he sang "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and stole my heart forever. I came back to earth to find my face drenched in tears for the beauty of the sound I had heard, then joined in with the TV applause and EEEEEEEE's!

I discovered Clay's amazing voice at the start of the AI 2 season and grew more intrigued every week, I didn't know what was happening to me-- this young singer was having a magical hold on me. Later, when I discovered message boards, I learned I wasn't the only one to fall under Clay's spell, and I found the way to describe it..with a "thud"!

Here it is six years later, and I'm more a Clay Aiken fan and admirer than ever.

Color is another language. It sometimes expresses your feeling more eloquently than words. Let's listen to the messages in colors.
When I asked kindergarten children to draw their images of "happiness," they drew various large forms, all extremely creative and rhythmical. In contrast, adults' drawings show lack of imagination and creativity. It seems to me that adults are restricted by common sense and socially established concepts. To liberate adults' minds from such restrictions, there is a simple, but effective way.
That is to use the power of colors. Colors have psychological impact on people's minds. By using the effect of colors, you can change your mood, and even your lifestyle. If you think that you need more energy, use red. If you feel like radiating your energy, use bright yellow. If you feel fatigue, green is the best color to use. In this way, colors can change your mood. And if you are refreshed, the forms you draw also change, indicating that you have changed your lifestyles. Colors are very powerful and influential.

Clay Aiken's book, Learning to Sing - Hearing the Music in Your Life is one I have to read or listen to the audio version at least once a year. In fact, I was reading it when Clay opened the great thread of Questions for Clay at the Official Fan Club.

LTS is educational, funny, and sad. No matter what the age of the reader, there is something you can relate to. No wonder it debuted at #2 on the New York Times Hardcover Non-fiction best-seller list and stayed on the list for many weeks after. It was republished in paperback form the next year (2005).
